I notice that US MREs tend to have smaller entrees, even tiny ones… and put much of the food and calories into snacks and side bits. My two cents: I like what some other countries do, and put the vast bulk of the “food” into entrees and main dish type things… Maybe because when I am hungry, I want to *EAT* - not “snack.”

Hi Steve my father was a British D, Day veteran and they were supplied an emergency ration pack that fitted into the leg pocket of their uniform. He said it had enough to keep you going for 24hr in the form of dehydrated, compressed cubes, tea, soup, porridge, etc, but not to be opened until ordered to do so in the event of normal rations being unavailable. He said it was a waxed carton about 5"× 7"× roughly an 1" thick, I've only ever seen one in books , have you ever come across one ?. On his journey across Europe he and his pals scrounged whatever they could to suppliment their sometimes meager rations. I actually really enjoy this menu. Don’t know why people rip on it. The garlic and onion works good and so long as you put at least a cracker in it, the texture is passable. Wish the chocolate drink mix was replaced with orange drink though. I get around this by using both crackers on the main and mixing the peanut butter into the chocolate drink

Me I do have access to a military base and most recently almost got a few MREs from the Commissary, and just recently ordered some so looking forward to trying some, my Dad who was US Navy vet, we to this day have a 70s era MRE stored a bread unit but its been mia for a long time. Hoping to find it .
